The construction of the underground tunnel on SS 36 near Monza (MB) was necessary for interconnection between the State Road and Milan’s highway system in the municipalities of Monza, Cinisello Balsamo and Muggiò.
The works involved excavation between the bulkheads and construction of the foundation slab with an inverted arch.
Also known as the Viale Lombardia tunnel, it is one of the longest city tunnels in Europe and its construction has helped improve the urban network that was until then severed by the trunk road.
